Brain Tumor Support Groups

The Madison Area Adult Brain Tumor Support Group meets monthly. The goal of the group is for brain tumor survivors and their families or support persons to share their experiences in an effort to provide a supportive and educational experience. All discussions are meant to be informal, not endorsements or recommendations of any treatment, institutions, or protocols. Discussions will be confidential. Services include access to PDQ--a computerized database providing the latest information most types of cancer. Also includes cancer publications.

*Please call the American Cancer Society Information Line at (800)ACS-2345 for local meetings of the following national support groups:

1. "I Can Cope" A cancer education program for patients and families, offered at intervals throughout the year. There is no fee for the program.

2. "Make Today Count" A support group where people with like conditions can deal with the emotional impact of cancer

Free Internet Resources
1. "BRAINTMR" Mailing List. To subscribe, send an email to listserv@mitvma.mit.edu. Leave the subject line empty, then type "subscribe braintmr" followed by your first and last names. Provides a worldwide email bulletin board for people to share personal and professional experiences with brain tumors. Participants include brain tumor patients, family members, neurosurgeons, social workers, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

2. CANCERNET, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. To access, send an email to cancernet@icicb.nci.nih.gov. Leave the subject line empty. Type help* as the message. You will receive PDQ Information for Health Care Professionals. You can also access CANCERNET through Oncolink. Click on "Other Cancer Resources," then select "NIH Resources, CANCERNET and Cancer Lit." Provides current information on protocols, physicians, treatment centers and research.

3. MEDHELP INTERNATIONAL (516)423-0472
